Bioboost participates in a technical workshop on innovative technologies for circular bioeconomy in Spain

The Bioboost project took part on 16 April in the technical workshop “Innovative technologies and circular bioeconomy: transforming waste into resources”, held at the facilities of Leitat Technological Center in Terrassa (Barcelona, Spain).

The event, organised by Aeris Tecnologias Ambientales and Leitat, with the support of the CESAM project initiative, brought together stakeholders from industry, research and public organisations to explore practical solutions for the valorisation of agro-industrial waste streams.

Turning waste into resources: from concept to implementation

The workshop showcased a range of real-world applications and emerging technologies aimed at converting organic waste into valuable resources. Topics addressed included:

  • Biogas production and effluent management
  • Recovery of nutrients and bio-based fertilisers
  • Valorisation of agri-food waste
  • Development of territorial bioeconomy projects

Beyond the technological perspective, the key message was clear: the circular bioeconomy is no longer a theoretical concept, but an evolving and deployable reality across regions.

BIOBOOST’s contribution: accelerating projects and reducing risk

Within this context, BIOBOOST presented its approach to supporting bioeconomy projects along their development journey — from early-stage concept to investment readiness.

The presentation, delivered by Míriam Romero (INVENIAM), focused on:

  • Key results and lessons learned from the project
  • Common barriers faced by bioeconomy initiatives
  • The importance of de-risking to unlock investment

BIOBOOST operates as a regional accelerator providing Project Development Assistance (PDA) services, combining technical, legal, financial and strategic support. Its objective is to help projects become more robust, structured and attractive to investors, ultimately contributing to the mobilisation of investment in the bioeconomy sector

Creating connections and opportunities

The workshop also included a networking and exhibition space (Expo Corner), fostering direct interaction between companies, technology providers and project developers. This environment enabled the exchange of ideas and the identification of potential collaborations.

Participation in such events is a key component of BIOBOOST’s dissemination strategy, aimed at increasing visibility, engaging stakeholders and facilitating the replication of successful approaches across Europe

Strengthening the bioeconomy ecosystem in Europe

Bioboost is part of a broader European effort to accelerate the transition towards a sustainable, circular and bio-based economy. By supporting projects at regional level in Catalonia — one of Spain’s most active bioeconomy ecosystems — the project contributes to demonstrating scalable models that can be replicated in other regions.
